About Julie
I created TideTurn because I believe people sometimes need the tide to turn for them — and that coaching can be the moment that makes it happen.
My journey
Twenty years of change, turned towards people
I have spent over twenty years helping organisations navigate change — a career spanning marketing, leadership and business transformation. I lecture in marketing at Masters and MBA level at the University of Suffolk, and deliver ILM leadership programmes for businesses through Suffolk New College.
But alongside all of that, the work that has always mattered most to me is coaching people through life's biggest transitions — redundancy, retirement, relocation, relationship change, or simply waking up knowing you are ready for something different.
I have always been drawn to the ocean and its healing properties. The rhythm of the tide, the vastness of the horizon and the constant reshaping of the shoreline mirror how life really works — and TideTurn was born from that belief.

The hermit crab
Outgrowing something isn't the same as failing
While I was in the Maldives, I found myself fascinated by the hermit crabs that scuttle across the beaches. As they grow, they eventually outgrow the shell that has protected them — and to keep growing, they have to leave it behind and find one that's a better fit. The old shell isn't wrong. It simply no longer fits.
How many of us hold on to something we've already outgrown — a relationship, a career, a role we've played for years — not because it's right, but because it's familiar? Moving on isn't about forgetting the past. It's about creating space for what's next.
Sometimes life changes the tide for us. Sometimes we choose to change it ourselves.
How I work
Tools and ideas we'll explore together
I am not here to tell you what to do. I am here to create a calm, confidential space where you can hear yourself think — supported by practical, proven coaching tools.
Life journey mapping
Looking back at the highs and lows — the people, places, achievements and failures that shaped you — and noticing that stormy times pass. What have you learned about yourself? From adversity, what are you now better equipped to do?
Understanding uncertainty
The fear of the unknown is the biggest driver of anxiety. Uncertainty can feel like fear, fog or stasis — but your tolerance for it can be improved with practical tools and techniques, so the future becomes exciting rather than frightening.
Thoughts and feelings
We have 40–60,000 thoughts a day, most of them repeated, and we feel before we think. Learning to notice what you are thinking and feeling — right now — is the first step to choosing what happens next.
Your life box
Recognising where you spend your time and energy, how you feel in each part of your life, and what your ideal life box would look like instead.
Future self and the GROW model
Visualising your future self, then working the GROW model — Goal, Reality, Options, Will — to turn that vision into a plan for this month, the next three months and the next six.
Your network and identity
Mapping the advocates and detractors around you, understanding your strengths, and crafting a professional identity — CV, LinkedIn and digital presence — that truly reflects who you are.
My approach
My coaching is practical and grounded, but it also makes room for the deeper questions: who am I now? What do I want? What am I ready to leave behind — and what am I ready to become?
“I felt positive after Julie's session — like a light had been switched on.”
